YEAR OF THE SHAPER - SURFING MAGAZINE
This is a major article that appeared in Surfing Magazine in 2007. We had five of the best shapers in the world, five of their top surfers and over 30 Surftech surfboards at Kandui to test the Tuflite shapes and designs in a variety of waves around the resort. We had a great time hosting these guys and the article came out fantastic!
Between Heats - Visiting pros and travelers score mega-swell in Mentawaiis: Another stellar Surfline feature detailing the monstrous May swell that smashed the Mentawai Islands in 2007. The waves don't get this big very often but when they do it is truly a sight to behold!
Wave of Compassion: More Than Your Average Boat Trip: For 10 days in October, 2006, an elite crew of surfers and photographers joined one grand prize winner on an epic voyage from Nias to the Mentawais.
This wasn't your normal boat trip: Our goal was to meet the local people and see the work of SurfAid International in action. SurfAid offers a chance to give something back through health projects that promote community-based, self-help solutions. Primary goals include combating Malaria and rebuilding communities damaged by the tsunami and earthquake.
Best Bet Indonesia - Surfing's Disneyland is Open for Business: We'll stay in the Southern Hemisphere for our June 2007 Best Bet and send you packing to Indonesia. The Roaring 40s of the Indian Ocean are typically on fire this time of year, which send long-period SW to S groundswells to all the exposed reefs throughout the island chain. For the top exposed reefs it's fairly rare for the surf to dip below head high, with the largest days producing as much surf as most of us would ever want, easily exceeding the triple overhead mark at least a couple times per month on average.
SURFLINE SPECIAL FEATURE: ON DRY LAND by Lewis Samuels
Stay on land in the Mentawais and you may face the following dilemma: You're surfing a perfect left reef, off a small palm fringed island. A single charter boat motors away, leaving you alone in the lineup. The wind is calm, the sun is too strong, and swell lines are stacked from you to Madagascar. Please click the image to read more about how Kandui startedwith this interesting insight from correspondent Lewis Samuels.
